The School of Food and Biological EngineeringinHefei University of Technology was established by integrating the resources of the former School of Food Science and Engineering and the former School of Biological and Medical Engineering.

Based on the education aims of "food security for the country, medicine for the people's livelihood", the College plan to cultivate "backbone and leading talents with both virtue and talent, excellent ability, and conscious service to the country", comprehensively implements the three-in-one education and teaching system of "moral cultivation, ability orientation, innovation and entrepreneurship", and continuously improves the quality of talent training. It has become an important force for personnel training, scientific research, social service and cultural inheritance of Hefei University of Technology.

The college has seven undergraduate programs, including food Science and engineering, food quality and safety, food nutrition and health, biological engineering, biotechnology, pharmaceutical pngineering and pharmacy. Among them, "Food Science and Engineering" and "Pharmaceutical Engineering" are national characteristic majors and engineering education professional certification majors of the Ministry of Education, selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors with "Food quality and safety". It has 3 academic degree programs in food Science and engineering, biology and pharmaceutical engineering, and two professional master programs in biology and medicine and pharmacy. It has established a doctoral program in the first-level discipline of "Food Science and Engineering", a postdoctoral mobile station, and a professional doctoral degree program in "Biology and Medicine" engineering; It has formed a complete talent training system from undergraduate, master, doctor to post-doctoral, and from professional master to engineering doctor. It has a national key discipline (cultivation) of "Agricultural product processing and storage engineering" and a key construction discipline of "Project 211". "Exploration and Practice of Cultivating innovative Professionals by Deep Collaborative Industrial College under the background of the development of new food business" was selected as the National new engineering research and practice project.

The college has 172 faculty members (including 4 rehired teachers), including 142 full-time teaching and research personnel, 15 laboratory teachers, and 15 administrative service personnel (including student counselors). Among the full-time teaching and research staff, there are 45 professors, 69 associate professors (1 foreign teacher), 25 lecturers and 3 postdoctoral fellows; There are 6 state-level high-level talents, and the proportion of doctoral teachers is more than 95%. There are 88 well-known part-time teachers at home and abroad, including 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It has built a team of teachers with high educational level, reasonable overall structure, strong teaching and research ability, and satisfying the needs of multi-level talent training.

The total area of the existing laboratories and research bases is about 18,000 square meters, and the equipment value exceeds 100 million yuan. There are 14 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, such as the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education of Agricultural Products Biochemistry, the Key Laboratory of Anhui Province for Intensive Processing of Agricultural Products, and the Key Laboratory of Microbiological Control and Utilization of China's Light Industrial Meat, which is the chief expert supporting unit of Anhui Province's modern agriculture "Agricultural Product Processing Industrial Technology System". Facing the major national and local needs, the school gives full play to the engineering advantages of Hefei University of Technology, conducts research in the fields of food science and engineering, biology and medicine, and has advantages in the processing and health of livestock products, grain and oil processing and storage, postharvest and quality of fruits and vegetables, food safety and monitoring, metabolism of major diseases and nutrition regulation.

In the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 130 national vertical projects, including 3 national key research and development projects, more than 160 major projects entrusted by provincial and ministerial levels and enterprises, and the research funds to the school exceed 100 million yuan. The school publishes more than 300 academic papers annually, of which more than 260 are high-level papers. In the past 3 years, the first completed unit has won 4 provincial and ministerial science and technology first prizes (including 1 natural science first prize), 1 national teaching achievement award and 7 provincial teaching awards. He has obtained more than 130 authorized invention patents and edited 11 textbooks. In 2022, the College won the Gold medal of the 8th China International "Internet +" College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (Undergraduate Start-up Group of the Main track of High Education), which made a historic breakthrough for the school.
